History

The team was founded by Lex Luthor, and the original lineup consisted of Black Manta, Cheetah, Gorilla Grodd, Joker, Sinestro. The group resides in a mobile base called the Hall of Doom.

Fight for the Totality

Lex gathered all the members of his new team, to reveal them why he chose them to become the Legion: he found out the true nature of Men, and of the Multiverse itself. A nature that would lead the Multiverse towards Doom. He explains that the destiny of humanity was to be rulers of all creation, and to be the most powerful race in the Multiverse, but everything was kept away from them. But he knew now that the key to Doom resided inside an object which was going to fall on Earth soon: the Totality, a piece of the Source Wall approaching the planet after the Wall's own destruction. And Lex picked the Legion because seven forces were needed to unlock this mighty object, and they were the perfect ones to harness those energies.

After the Legion cooperated in the assassination of Vandal Savage, who was trying to shift the Earth's orbit to make sure the Totality never reached it, the Legion started to fight the Justice League to take the Totality, now on Earth. While Grodd and Sinestro harnessed two of the seven forces, the Still Force and the Invisible Spectrum, wreaking havoc on Earth, Lex and Joker secretly infiltrated inside Superman and Martian Manhunter's bodies, where also Batman and Hawkgirl were, so that they could enter the Totality's energy field undamaged.

Lex and Joker were able to take control of Superman and the Manhunter's bodies, sending then all the Justice League heroes back to the Hall defeated. Then, they took the Totality and started the unlocking process with the first two forces. But surprisingly, the League was able to counter the attack of Umbrax, the powerful black sun linked with Sinestro's Invisible Spectrum, pushing it away thanks to the Still Force, accessed by Flash. Also, Hawkgirl was empowered by the Totality, so she was able to attack Lex and bring the object to the Hall of Justice before Luthor could transport it inside the Hall of Doom. The Legion's first battle was lost, but the war was far from over: Lex was desperate, and decided to ask for help to a frightening man he held as prisoner.

Drowned Earth

Luthor allied himself with the Batman who Laughs, who revealed him details about Perpetua. Meanwhile, Lex gave to Cheetah and Manta the third force, the Tear of Extinction, so that they could kill Poseidon and free the Triumvirate of Sea Gods, leading to the drowning of the Earth. This was key to make the destruction of the Graveyard of Gods possible, and it also was the perfect diversive to exploit, giving the Legion the opportunity to steal back the Totality, which they did.

After regaining the Totality and unlocking it more thanks to the Tear and the Graveyard's destruction, Lex called Manta for retreat, as the drowning was not necessary anymore and the League was turning the tides. As Manta refused, Lex decided to ban him from the Legion. Then, the Joker made clear he wanted out of the Legion, as Lex gained his trust by promising he would never side with the Batman who Laughs, then doing the opposite. To substitute Joker and Manta, Lex, thanks also to the help of Professor Ivo, brought Brainiac back to life.
