I'm just here for the Grell - Mike Grell, drawing some Warlord pages. And, man, it was glorious! Grell is one of my favorite writer/artists - his run on Green Arrow is one of my favorite runs of all time, and I love...

Grell is amazing. That 3 issue mini he did in the 80s was beautiful. The art was on fire!

I haven't always loved the story in this arc, but Marquez is fantastic. I'm fed up with the art in so many books being only okay, or artists being obvious about the corners they cut (smaller panels, too much white space, repeated shots at different distance). But Marquez draws each and every panel like he's trying to blow your mind. I love it.

I thought the first issue was interesting - a quirky concept with some real possibility for emotional range. But this second issue makes it seem too simple - basically, like any other on-the-run action book. I'm off.

I have not read this issue. I will read it in trade... But "too simple" is not Jeff Lemire's wheelhouse. I bet there is more going on.  But I have been wrong before. Ha.

This was terrific - a one-shot story, yes, but Taylor nails a nice emotional core, does some great panel to panel writing, and his script, with Blanco's visuals, makes some interesting formal choices as well to vary the perspective, to mess with time. It's really well done.

Tom Taylor is fantastic. I look forward to reading his Suicide Squad in trades.

Question - this may be a little off topic for here, but I bet someone has some expertise.

I was into the Mack Bolan novels when I was younger - amazing covers, you can collect them, they read quickly. And now decades later I'm finding pulled back toward them - I like the simplicity of the 70s, the straightforward vigilante missions. It's like the early issues of Mike Baron's Punisher, if you want a comic book comparable - though no costumes, etc.

Anyway, anyone here really into those books? There are literally hundreds of novels and I'm looking for a list that suggests the top 10, or breaks down the plots. I'm also starting to track down The Death Merchant novels - so any insight or links into "men's adventure" pulps would be awesome.

Max Allan Collins' Quarry series is a version of this too - and there was a recent comics adaptation, and the tv series. So, generally, stuff like this.
