The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1
New perspective on a known story = something amazing

So appreciated Ahmed’s take on the symbiote - seeing the familiar story unfold from its perspective, makes the symbiote more than a mere parasitic leech, but an incredibly sympathetic being feeling a sense of longing and loss. It’s desire to please Peter in a way a child yearns to please a parent & along the way learns parameters & grows in understanding was extremely enjoyable. I know that writers have begun delving more into the symbiote’s desires & personality in more recent runs of Agent Venom & Venom - neither of which I’ve kept up with - but being transported back to the 80’s to relive a historic moment in Spider-Man’s life from the perspective of another was such a nice touch & a story that I didn’t know that I wanted & needed as a longtime Spider-fan. Hands-down enjoyed this annual more than the last 5 issues of the series... 4 stars all around for the compelling story perspective & fantastic art by Brown that transported me back to earlier ASM issues (#250’s), while still having a modern take that helped rope me into the issue.

Completely agree with everything written here, on all points. Loved the flashback, the symbiote’s perspective, and the change of pace - it was just refreshing. Agreed; a study I didn’t know I wanted.

Is this connected to the "Amazing Spider-man" storyline by Nick Spencer and Ryan Ottley or no?
