A soldier is a weapon. A weapon’s value is inversely proportional to the threat it poses to those who profess to control it. Aim a gun. Pull the trigger. It serves its purpose, undeterred. A weapon is cold - unfeeling. A tool with which to inflict one’s will. But what happens when the weapon is a man? When it has a heartbeat? The ability to reason? The burden of emotion? What happens then, when that living, breathing, thinking weapon becomes a threat - a danger to those who crafted it? Too powerful to contain. Too unstable to control. As with any other flawed piece of equipment, it is decommissioned. Removed from use. Analyzed. Prodded. Probed. Taken apart - piece-by-piece. And should that weapon, after years of abuse, put itself back together again? Could it be blamed for its subsequent actions? Or would the bloody path toward retribution be justified?
