White smoke confirming the election of a new pope rose above the Vatican. But, is it not the demon who has just girded the papal tiara? On the faith of a marvelous sign, the dark Cardinal Trebaldi was elected to the succession of Saint Peter ... A miracle would have made the cross of Saint Peter appear in the heart of the Eternal City, in the very bowels of the palace ancestral of the Trebaldi! Renowned researcher of lucrative relics, the Scorpion has sufficiently dissected the ancient texts and excavated the basements of Rome to have doubts about the authenticity of this miraculous and very timely apparition. It is true that the tradition of the Church places the martyrdom of the Apostle in Rome. One of the rare cardinals who still dares to oppose the proud Trebaldi instructs Scorpio to find the true cross, the only way to denounce the illegitimacy of the new sovereign pontiff. To carry out this difficult mission, he must escape the vigilance of the warrior monks in Trebaldi's pay. He must also take the road to Istanbul and embark on the discovery of a very mysterious past.
