MEET: MISTER MIRACLE
Scott Free is the greatest escape artist that ever lived. So great that he escaped Granny Goodness’ gruesome orphanage and the dangers of Apokolips to travel across galaxies and set up a new life on Earth with his wife, the former female fury known as Big Barda. Using the stage alter ego of Mister Miracle, he has made a career for himself showing off his acrobatic escape techniques. He even caught the attention of the Justice League, which counted him among its ranks.
You might say Scott Free has everything... so why isn’t it enough? Mister Miracle has mastered every illusion, achieved every stunt, pulled off every trick -- except one. He has never escaped death. Is it even possible? Our hero is going to have to kill himself if he wants to find out. This is a Mister Miracle unlike any you’ve read before.

One more thing to add: how is Gerards' variant cover not the standard cover? He's the main artist! That's like saying "here's Metallica....featuring guest guitarist Kirk Hammett!
Lol, that's funny. I saw the variant cover in the store and almost picked it up but didn't. It looked nice though.
This was great. The only thing that bugged me, and it was a really tiny bug, was the panel format. It was just like reading Omega Men. Not necessarily a bad thing, I just don't want the books to be so similar.
I haven’t read all of Kings other work but what I have read
he does like to use the paneling to get out large chunks of dialog and
information. This seems to be his style
and you will likely keep finding in his books yet to come.
It's soon becoming his signature storytelling style. I think King has also mentioned he wanted to make this his version of Watchmen, addressing current social issues just as Watchmen did decades ago.
I have to say... I'm actually impressed. Such an interesting take on the character. I'm in on this book.
Going for a second day at Boston Comic Con tomorrow. I'm going to see if he'll sign my copy of this and maybe Batman 1.

I was not fond of it. I must admit I know nothing about Mister Miracle but I'll probably continue to pick it up to see where it goes.
Story was great. I love King's ability to tell great stories with non A-list characters. Not sure why I don't like his Batman, but this just grabbed me right away and knocked me right on my butt. STAND! Yes ok I will buy this series.
Was not collecting then. Loved his Visions... Need to read Omega and Sheriff.
Was only reading characters hat I knew and interested me at that point. Then I picked up Saga, Underwater Welder, and the first trade of Low at the library and I started reading anything and everything I could get my hands on. I got the trade of Omega Men after that and loved it.

Same here in Southern California, super happy to see there's buzz for this series.
Yeah, if it's a hot comic sometimes they go by the end of the day it comes out at my LCS. But luckily here in Cincinnati I have like 7 or 8 other stories in the Cincinnati, Dayton and Northern Kentucky areas to choose from.
yeah I have about 5 shops near me, but sold out...and the ones that might have a copy or two have bumped up the price to $20 already crazy....
What? 20 bucks... Crazy. If a shop did that around here it would be boycotted. There was a shop in KY that was selling DC Rebirth variant covers above cover price the day they came out. Word made it to local news.. Local news reported... Shop closed 4 months later.
Do you have a link about the shop price gouging, or the name of the shop? I want to read about it but I'm not finding anything.
Its my LCS, they actually haven't posted it on there site yet, my buddy works there and told me that they have bump up the price. actually I went to check on amazon and its already up to $18
What about in regular book stores. Have you tried looking there. This situation happened to me a few years ago and I was able to get a 1st print in a book store when it had sold out everywhere else.
I think MLCS still has reg and variant covers . still regular price.

Always liked Mister Miracle. Pretty much the only thing about New Gods I have ever been able to stand. Loved this issue. This is what I was hoping Young Animals would be like.
I almost passed on getting this. Good thing I didn't because it's so good. And now it seems it's hard to come by as well. Shout out to Taren for convincing me to pick it up.

Yeah, it's a popular book. Maybe get a digital copy to read it... Then pick up issue 2? Something tells me this is going to be very good.
Yeah but it's more fun and satisfying owning the physical copy... I don't like digital copies the same reason I don't like using Kindle - it's just more real holding the actual thing and enjoying it

As we know....even with a pull list you can miss things. My LCS has missed a few books the last few weeks. He did not put a copy of Souther Basterds...Had to run back and grab a copy...but did not get a cover B.
Loved this first issue!
The Director's Cut, out today, contains 8 new pages sharing the Secret Origin of Mister Miracle, by Tom King and Mike Norton. Definite must have for those who missed issue #1 and those who are loving the series, thus far.
And here I thought this was a reprint. Dang it, if I would have known that might have bought it.
This was ok but not really worth 5.99
This and grant Morrison's Arkham Asylum are my least favorite comics I've read . I seem to hate everything Tom King has written .
