1. 'Spider-Man' - (Lee/Ditko) While Peter Parker tries to continue a show biz career as Spider-Man, J. Jonah Jameson's editorials labeling him a menace makes it hard for him to find work. When the rocket piloted by Jameson's son John malfunctions, Spider-man convinces the military to allow him to help. Riding aboard a jet to catch up with John's capsule, Spider-Man web-zips to the capsule, where he is able to replace the defective guidance control and John is able to land safely. While Peter believes he has redeemed himself in JJJ's eyes, the following day, another editorial is run, accusing Spider-Man of sabotaging the rocket in the first place in order to perform a rescue and get more attention.

2. Spider-Man vs. The Chameleon! - (Lee/Ditko) Still trying to make money, Peter decides to try to join the Fantastic Four. He sneaks into their headquarters, the Baxter Building and battles the foursome with the intention of displaying his prowess. Unfortunately for Peter, Reed Richards informs him that The Fantastic Four are a non-profit organization. Disappointed, he leaves.

When the master criminal known only as The Chameleon hears of Spider-Man's attempt, he concluded that he must be desperate for money. Breaking into a military compound dressed as Spider-Man, he steals a set of missile plans; framing Spider-man in the process. While Spider-Man is able to pursue and capture The Chameleon, the master of disguise quickly changes his appearance to mimic one of the security officers and nearly manages to escape, until Spider-Man uses his Spider-sense to discern which guard is the biggest threat. After ripping the front of the phony guard's uniform, revealing a Spider-Man costume below it, Spider-Man knows that he's cleared his name, and scales the building to make his escape.
