Batman: Shadow of the Bat #28

KNIGHTQUEST: THE CRUSADE - COMMISSIONER GORDON: THE LONG DARK NIGHT

Batman lets Abattoir die. He doesn't feel good nor bad about it; he feels righteous. The Gotham City Police Department is looking for Abattoir's hostage Graham Etchinson as they already know about Abattoir's death.  As the police continue their search, a street gang is planning an attack on a fancy restaurant at night. They will ask protection money from the other restaurants in the city. At twilight Detective Bullock and Detective Montoya have searched all possible locations except for an abandoned warehouse. They enter the warehouse to find Etchinson's lifeless body in Abattoir's torture machine. They let Commissioner Gordon know about it and he hurries to activate the batsignal. Batman arrives at the GDPD's rooftop and Gordon tells him that he already knows he isn't the original Batman and demands a reckoning of Batman's actions that has cost an innocent man's life. Batman tells Gordon that he will do whatever is necessary to cleanse the city and complete his crusade. After Batman leaves, Gordon, feeling wrathful, destroys the Bat Signal with his gun.  On his way, Batman sees the street gang that is about to wreck the restaurant and stops them with violence and brutally beats them. Gordon listens to what happened on the radio and feels alone, betrayed and wondering where is his friend and why did he leave him.  Batman returns to the batcave and starts to sketch a new design for the batsuit; the ultimate Batman.
