These Alex Ross covers are just killing it every single month. I am commenting on #27 in particular because 24, 25 and 26 are so strong. These kids masks are amazing!
Alex Ross is absolutely incredible. I put him up there with the pantheon of greats: Kirby, Ditko, Steranko, Frazetta... well... you get the idea. Yes, that's an awesome cover for #28. There hasn't been a weak Immortal Hulk cover by Alex Ross yet, in my opinion, and I don't expect there will be.
Your list of the greats matches mine quite well. And yeah I don't see myself not picking up this whole Immortal Hulk run just for the collection of Ross covers

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA there is nothing fucking "woke" about this book. Stop using dumbass buzz words to describe comics. It makes you and other people who use them sound so immature and childish. This is a horror book, and a body horror book. The only thing that could even be considered woke is mentions of global warming which is a real thing. People need to grow the fuck up!

There is definitely politics in this book, some I don't mind - some I do. This particular issue with the vastly different art was very annoying, luckily Joe is coming right back. I prefer more Hulk Smash and Bruce Banner psychology.
I... don't really think it's "woke" to point out facts about capitalism. There's really nothing in this comic that isn't blatantly obvious.
Comics have had politics since their inception. Ewing has handled everything expertly and this iteration of the Hulk is a fascinating character to explore this angle with. Hulk is still doing great numbers and it's difficult to attribute anything to the story when other factors are at play too, namely the debut of the Dawn of X and the fact that Hulk numbers were inflated for a little while due to variant covers.
I feel like this may be a case of having friends in an echo chamber. I'd recommend reading the issues yourself. IMO, Ewing handles everything much better than most writers of any political orientation.
I Find it annoying to a point modern mainstream comics are mostly left leaning views the comic is too much of one side, and the story telling is no longer balanced it saying one side is good the other is bad, when writers treat as story not a pamphlet that's mirroring whats on the news feed. when the writer sounds like his/her twitter, they has lost the voice of the character they has written.

How would a product being sold not engage in capitalism? Everything is capitalism. Doesn't mean it's some holy ground that can't be critiqued or discussed.
I'm almost 100% positive that every comic you think does a good job as subtly covering political issues is about as unsubtle as a grand piano falling on your head. Subtlety is overrated. You can accuse me of being in my own echo chamber all you want lol, doesn't mean you aren't in your own.
Escapism is a nice word but largely pointless when describing art. All art has a message. All art is inherently political. It's just a matter of whether you like the politics or not. Clearly in this case you do not.

And if you cant handle a little bit of other side politics in your comics (even though being critical of capitalism is hardly propaganda or horrible) then I feel sorry for you.

Finally caught up. Lots of drama over well written but mostly very well drawn comic.
At least the Minataur looked somewhat like a minataur. The previous issue looked like a pug with horns. Silly looking.
The art was nothing special. But it was serviceable.
I enjoyed the normal angle to coincide with the day in the life of the characters. Plus not focusing Hulk gives it a change of pace.
Right, I enjoy stories like that. It was quite fun. AL is a writer I will keep en eye out for.
Wonderful issue. Yes there is political commentary here. However, its not heavy handed. The reason for the strong reaction has to do more with the fact that the security guard in this issue seems to represent a large swath of the rightwing population. My guess is they feel misrepresented here. All I can say is we DO have a major issue with trigger happy officers here in the US. This issue attempts to demonstrate maybe the thought process behind some of these trigger happy responses. This is done beautifully though a personal story about a father and his daughter. Great writing, great issue, check it out!

A book I’d read a couple of years, The Book of Unknown Americans, also had what seems to be a similarly jarring characterization of a guy and his kid (both of whom end up committing acts of violence towards the main characters). I appreciated the reality of the story and the characters, even knowing that it might get dismissed by some readers under “not all x” language.

Ah, the deep state. Simultaneously weak against the presidency, but somehow controlling the government. For anyone complaining about politics in comics, you're years late... This is Marvel! You don't get though a series without politics being involved. X-Men began as a criticism of racism in the 60's. Secret Empire was based around the Trump administration (with several writer-embellished elements). There's a large subset of the real world population who believes in the mythic "deep state" boogeymen, so why wouldn't it be used in a comic? If you want Ewing or other writers to compromise themselves to satisfy your desires, because you can't handle the small amount of politics mentioned in the issue, then go read something else. They have no obligation to write something they wouldn't want to read themselves.
That said, I enjoyed the issue well enough. Don't really know much about Roxxon outside of some of the Thor issues and Spider-Man 2099 escapades, but it amazes me the corporation hasn't been shut down by now.

Taking Stan's quote through your interpretation, it kind of sounds like Stan should've taken his own advice. The "commies" as Sue Storm so eloquently puts it in FF #1, are early villains in Hulk, Thor, even Spider-Man. Iron Man was pretty much the premiere anti-communist superhero. That's pretty close to taking a stand in my view.
I feel that there's a fundamental misunderstanding here of modern day comics. There's truly not been any meaningful increase in the subtlety of politics when you compare it to the golden and silver age. Claiming there's an agenda being followed today and there wasn't one back in the "good old days" is laughable.
A lot of early comics were made as propaganda during WWII and sent to the troops. Captain America was so on-the-nose with it too.
History repeats itself though. People were sending threats to Kirby and Simon over Captain America #1. That cover of him punching Hitler got all the reactionaries butthurt.
It's funny to watch people twist themselves up in the same way. All their veiled nonsense of "not over politicizing things" as if that bar isn't already low enough that even one line in a comic gets them foaming at the mouth. Pretending to be 'civil' while accusing everyone else of being triggered or overreacting or attacking them. When people call them out on it, they just fall back on gish gallup. It's a really good tactic for bad actors though, I will admit that.
This book is social and political commentary... Not racism. South Park is not racist, although some people would say so, however, It is social and political satire and commentary. Being critical of a system (capitalism) is not being anti American. It's simply a commentary on the state of capitalism.
I don't see this book as demonizing any group. It is being critical of a ideology and system, not a group of people.
I am not your dude. But if you don't think we have an issue with trigger happy police then I can't help you. My friends who served in war zones in Iraq and Afghanistan ask all the time... "What are the rules of engagement for police officers?" It would seem the rules of engagement with our police officers on the street is pretty loose and open to too much interpretation. Lots of work to be done here in the states.
