Catherine Todd was the wife of Willis Todd and the stepmother of Jason Todd, who she raised as her own. Jason took care of her during the final year of her life after she fell ill, and she died in the February before Jason met Batman. Jason lived on the streets in between Catherine's death and his placement with Bruce Wayne. Jason had no idea Catherine wasn't his birth mother until a neighbor, Mrs. Walker, gave him his original (but damaged) birth certificate years later. He then went in search of his birth mother, Sheila Haywood.
