Baron Tyme was an occultist encountered by Man-Bat.  Clement Tyme was a professor of Medieval history at Antioke University. Through the course of his studies however, he developed an interest in the occult - specifically, alchemy and sorcery. Tyme learned that sorcery was really just an undiscovered science - a school of thought lost to mankind for ages. Within the so-called "Star Chamber" tower at Antioke University, Tyme succeeded in summoning forth a Hell-Spawn. He made a bargain with the demon; in return for power, he would supply the Hell-Spawn with human lives. The demon showed Tyme a creature that could serve as an instrument to his power -- Francine Lee. Tyme learned that Lee also suffered a bizarre, vampiric mutation that transformed her into a She-Bat. Using his newfound abilities, Tyme hypnotized the She-Bat and forced her into executing select individuals -- sacrifices for the demon. Invariably, these acts caught the attention of Francine's husband, Kirk Langstrom, the original Man-Bat. Langstrom tried to restrain Francine, but the undeterred She-Bat traveled deep into the city with the intent of slaying one of Tyme's colleagues, Professor Raymond Arthur. Langstrom succeeded in saving Arthur's life, and through doing so, learned about Baron Tyme. With the aid of Batman, Kirk was able to secure the She-Bat and turn her back to normal. Langstrom then raided Tyme's Star Chamber, but Tyme captured him, spawning tentacles from the walls of the tower to restrain the Man-Bat. Langstrom emitted an ear-piercing sonic howl that caused Tyme tremendous pain, weakening his hold over him. The Man-Bat broke free, but during his fight with Tyme, a brazier was knocked over and Tyme caught on fire. Man-Bat flew out of tower window as it exploded in flames.
