History

Hope Abbott was raised in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. When Hope's powers manifested, it appeared as if a ghost came out of her body, giving her father a heart attack. Her parents sent her to the Xavier Institute, believing that she would be "cured."

After the events of M-Day transpired, she was one of only 27 students to keep her powers. Greatly weakened by the losses, Emma Frost placed all of the remaining students into an battle royale to determine who would become the team of X-Men in-training. Hope did not make the team, but like all of the other students who retained their powers, she continued to reside at the Institute.

Trance was one of the mutants that vanished when Nate Grey decided to eliminate the X-Men for opposing his plans to change the world through force. All the vanished mutants were transported to Nate Grey's pocket reality where he attempted to create a utopia for mutants. Like all those transported there, her memories of her previous life were erased. Trance became a student for Summers Institute for Higher Learning. She was one of the students whose named was called by Dr. Reyes when she started to take attendance in her class. While not seen, Trance was allowed to return to the real world by Nate Grey after he was made to realize the flaws in the way he controlled his reality.

Shortly afterwards, a new mutant nation was founded by Charles Xavier and his allies on Krakoa. Trance was one of the many mutants that became citizens of the new state, and was present when a group of anti-mutant criminals attacked the island. She was injured during the attack.
