Viktor Komolov was a high-ranking member of the Solntsevskaya Bratva that learned the ways of black magic, and shared his knowledge with his men.

Komolov set out to bring back Omega Red back from the dead by using black magic. To this end, he made a deal with the Hand, trading them victims of human-trafficking in exchange for the coffin that contained the remains of Omega Red, Komolov and his men subsequently carried out a ritual that resulted in Omega Red's rebirth. However, this was temporary, which required Omega Red to regularly feed on people's life energy. And even then, that only delayed his body's inevitable decay.
Komolov's right hand Anatoly Rasputin was the estranged uncle of powerful sorceress and X-Men member Magik. Under the pretense he was tipping them off about Omega Red's return, Anatoly lured the X-Men to Russia, and set up an ambush during which Komolov's men kidnapped Magik, with the intention to force her to empower Omega Red and prevent his decay.
Even though Komolov had already forced Magik to strengthen Omega Red when the X-Men attacked his base, they managed to rescue their teammate and defeat Komolov, who was subsequently taken into custody by S.I.C.K.L.E..
