Sara Jane

She decided that she would use the upcoming school field trip to Alcorps to free some of the animals they held in captivity. To this end, she befriended Patton, who she hoped would help her on her mission.

When they arrived at Alcorps, Sara Jane grabbed Patton, pulled him into the biogen lab, and encouraged him to free as many animals as he could. However, Patton received a bite from an irradiated arachnid while trying to grab it, and the two were caught by security immediately after. After being scolded by security and the police, Sara Jane offered Patton a lift home because his Uncle Ted was working that day. The following day, Sara Jane heard Ted beat Patton with a belt, and shed a tear for him.

The next day, Sara Jane visited Patton to ask him if he had seen their classmate Gene because he had gone missing and Patton was the last one seen talking to him. Patton avoided the question, but wondered aloud what Sara Jane saw in Gene, since he was "beneath [her]". Sara Jane was taken aback by Patton's sudden confidence, though admitted that she kind of liked it. Upon saying this, Patton suddenly kissed her and bit deep into her neck. Sara Jane slapped him away, but Patton transformed into a more spider-like form, and shot web down the hallway to stop her from leaving. Spider-Man chased Sara Jane into his room, where she saw Uncle Ted tied to the bed and realized the true horror of the situation. Patton's spider offspring hatched from Ted's face and crawled over Sara Jane as she fearfully tried to swat them off. When Morlun arrived and engaged Spider-Man in battle, Sara Jane fled the house and frantically tried to convince herself that it was just a dream.

The following day, when Sara Jane inspected herself in the mirror, she saw something crawling under the skin of her neck. Tens of tiny spiders burst out and she began to scream.
