As a boy, Berto garnered a trust with the young America by giving her his prized toy, Juanchiz the blue hippo and became close siblings since then.

Thirteen years later, Berto is a grown man with a wife and young son. While with his parents, a mysterious forcefield and apartment fire occurred, trapping him and his family in the inferno. Thankfully, America saved all of them from the fire, with him unaware that it was set by an enemy of America.
