Earlier this month, actor Zack Galifianakis (Hangover) passed on the opportunity to star alongside Ryan Reynolds in Universal Pictures' adaptation of the R.I.P.D. comic book series from Dark Horse. Galifianakis was said to have been forced to drop from the project due to a previous commitment - starring in Jay Roach’s Southern Rivals movie. Now, THR claims Tron: Legacy star Jeff Bridges is in negotiations to join Reynolds in the supernatural action comedy.
R.I.P.D. stands for Rest In Peace Department, an underground police force who battle spirits unready to depart this world. Should Jeff Bridges be cast in the film, he'll play Nick Cruz's (Ryan Reynolds) partner, a gunslinger from the Old West who's been hunting spirits since the 1800s.
Robert Schwentke (Red) will direct R.I.P.D.. Ryan Reynolds is the only confirmed member of the cast for the film thus far. Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi will pen the screenplay with Dark Horse President Mike Richardson, Lawrence Gordon and Neal Moritz producing.
