After proving to be a success within the world of comics and in television, it was only natural for Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead comic book series to make its next stop the video game industry. With the help of Telltale Games, the developers of the Sam & Max series, gamers will soon be able to experience a story parallel to Rick Grimes' survival during the zombie apocalypse. Today, they launch the game's official website with new screenshots and "Playing Dead", a behind-the-scenes "talk show" that delves into the development of the game.
Telltale's The Walking Dead will be an episodic Adventure Horror game series telling the story of a new group of survivors, led by new protagonist, Lee Everett, as they struggle to flee the horror of the zombie-infested city of Atlanta. First detailed during the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con, the episodic game will act as a medium for fans of the series to interact with people and events that have occurred in the fan-favorite comic book series. The released screenshots suggest we may see characters like Glen pop up. And like many adventure games, The Walking Dead will boast a deep story with tons of dialogue, adrenaline-fueled puzzles, and problem solving.
"Playing Dead" is a nine episode behind-the-scenes talk show hosted by AJ LoCascio (the voice of Marty McFly in Telltale’s Back to the Future: The Game series), that features guests like Robert Kirkman and story consultant Gary Whitta (The Book of Eli writer). The first episode is available online and via digital platforms, or you can watch it below.
The five-part Walking Dead series will be available in spring of 2012 for all major gaming platforms. A long wait, sure, but for now we have these 3 excellent screenshots showing how closely the game will mimic the visual style of The Walking Dead artist Charlie Adlard.
