Joss Whedon and Dark Horse Comics' Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight proved that a TV show could successfully transition to the world of comics. Its success led to several other franchises like Angel, Charmed, and Pushing Daisies continuing in comic book form and today, DC Entertainment have announced plans to do the same with The CW's Smallville.
If you recall, the tenth and final season of Smallville ended last May with a big tease of Clark donning the Superman costume for the very first time. It was a bittersweet conclusion for many fans. Some had hoped the show would return in some form, even with a spin-off. And while the newly announced Arrow series isn't exactly that, news of a comic book series continuing from where Smallville left off, it sounds like this new comic will give them a taste of Clark's early adventures of Superman.
In Smallville Season 11, everyone's favorites will return to accompany Clark Kent (or shall we say, Superman) six months after the events of Season 10. Chloe Sullivan-Queen, Oliver Queen (Green Arrow), Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, and General Lane are all involved in an intricate story being written by Smallville scribe Bryan Q. Miller. Miller will join forces with artist Pere Perez to release weekly chapters on digital platforms beginning April 13th, 2012. Those chapters will be then collected within a printed comic due in stores May 16th.
DC have also released the image above, featuring the work of artist, Cat Staggs, who'll handle the covers for each chapter of the series. The print version will feature a cover from artist Gary Frank when it releases in May.
