After several delays, it appears 20th Century Fox is now ready to set a new release date for their James Mangold-directed X-Men Origins: Wolverine sequel, The Wolverine. The studio has chosen a July 26, 2013 release date for the Hugh Jackman picture.
The new date lines it up with the upcoming Dirty Dancing remake from Lionsgate and director Kenny Ortegas, as well as Disney's Phineas and Ferb movie. While the two don't share a targeted audience with the Canucklehead's new film, it will compete with an untitled Tom Cruise sci-fi flick scheduled for release a week before.
Last we heard, The Wolverine focused on Logan's time in Japan. More precisely, a casting call hinted that he'd get into trouble in his native Canada, and a Japanese man named Zen arranges for his release and offers to answer questions about his origin if Logan will accompany him to Tokyo.
Now that a date has been set, the studio is likely to begin rounding out the cast and moving forward with shooting based on the script from The Usual Suspects writer Christopher McQuarrie.
