Even though Gazillion Entertainment and Secret Identity Studios have been teasing us with character renders for their upcoming Marvel Heroes MMO (formerly Marvel Universe Online), they've just officially announced their plans to utilize Epic's Unreal Engine 3.
Unreal Engine 3 (or UE3) has been the go-to video game development platform for almost half a decade now with dozens of hits using it, including many comic book video games. Batman: Arkham Asylum, Batman: Arkham City, and DC Universe Online being the first few to come to mind.
According to studio head Jeff Lind and other members of the team, the decision to go with UE3 came down to the flexibility it offered with its actor components, lighting and quick import of pre-existing assets that allowed for all kinds of customizations.
Marvel Heroes has yet to receive a release date, but here's what we do know so far. The free-to-play massive multiplayer online game for the PC will allow players to take on the role of their favorite superheroes including Wolverine, Deadpool, Captain America and more as they relive moments from the comic books and even ones created specifically for the game.
You'll want to check out our Marvel Heroes page to stay abreast of the game's latest news.
