DC isn't the only comic book publisher looking to experiment with broadcasting blocks to reach out to fans on cable TV. Today, Marvel revealed their plans to launch Marvel Universe, a programming block set to debut on Disney XD in April that will feature exclusive Marvel content, animated shorts, live-action interstitials, the return of The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes and the new Ultimate Spider-Man animated series.
"Iconic Marvel heroes and villains and stories with core values of accomplishment, discovery and growth make Marvel Universe a perfect complement to Disney XD and a destination for parents and kids to experience together," said Gary Marsh, President and Chief Creative Officer of Disney Channels Worldwide.
Could Marvel use the block to experiment with content that would have otherwise been deemed unfit for a full season pickup? One could hope.
Marvel Universe begins April 1st on Disney XD. Stay tuned for more details.
