Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures know how much you love your movies in 3D and have just made it official, the Joss Whedon-directed The Avengers movie will now arrive in both 2D and 3D formats May 4th, 2012.
According to JoBlo.com, Whedon was aware of the studios' plans to convert the film to the 3D format. The director had been sensitive to the concerns that often come with the format. He says he was thought about the impact "every second while filming" and assures fans that the film is not "obnoxiously 3D". "There's no, 'Oh look, we're going to spend 20 minutes going through this tunnel because it's in 3D!' And no one is pointing at the screen the entire time. But it's an action movie. Things tend to hurtle toward the screen anyway."
Whedon says he's behind the idea of 3D 100%. "Yeah, it's fun!...I'm not a big fan of extreme long lens, talky movies - I like to see the space I'm in and relate to it, so 3D kinda fits my aesthetic anyway. And the technology has advanced so far in the past couple years."
For those keeping score, Marvel's past two films, Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger, were both converted to 3D. Their directors, Kenneth Branagh and Joe Johnston, were also behind the idea of converting their films.
The Avengers stars Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Mark Ruffalo as the Incredible Hulk, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill and Stellan Skarsgård as Dr. Selvig.
