Winter Soldier is another gem from Ed Brubaker and another step in making Bucky Barnes just as interesting and iconic as his red, white and blue partner.
-
Brubaker knows these waters well, having written several excellent arcs on Captain America that mined the same territory; and here again, he shows a masterful job of building a spy mystery full of intrigue and double deals.
-
Whether or not you will enjoy Winter Soldier depends entirely on how you felt about Captain America a couple of years ago. If you liked that, you will like this. It is essentially one Falcon short of being the same book.
-
This series may resurrect a lot of familiar elements from earlier in Brubaker's run, but it also manages to blaze its own trail as well. The wait was well worth it.
-
Ultimately, Brubaker, Guice and Breitweiser are so good at working together, watching this jam session in Winter Soldier #1 works even when the story starts to stumble.
-
This book is light years better than DC’s recent military-themed books. Someone at DC needs to read this book and take notes!
-
Finally, the Winter Soldier has his own series, and it's everything you'd hope for.
-
The series is off to a great start and if you're not already sold on this direction, you will be by the time you finish the first issue.
